Montana State University (MSU) celebrated the launch of its television network that will train weatherization workers across the nation. Using funds from their NCAF/ExxonMobil Partnership grant, MSU will expand training for weatherization workers across the United States, through their high-quality television show which is web-based. The show, called WxTV, is produced at the Montana Weatherization Training Center, but incorporates footage and experts from around the country. Six episodes have been produced so far, but the grant funds will enable production of a total of 36 episodes. MSU Extension’s Director Mike Vogel said that some programming will be directed towards weatherization managers, and others will be suitable for contractors and work crews (ranging from highly technical to those designed to help trainers). This is important since weatherization is an exacting profession involving science, theory, and a variety of skills.
Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer and U.S. Senator Jon Tester were among those who spoke at the well-attended event. Others present included MSU’s Vice Provost, the Director of the MSU Extension, NCAF/ExxonMobil representatives, and the Human Resource Development Council. Senator Tester said the grant is a triple winner for Montana that will help create jobs, save energy and money and help educate people. He indicated that "weatherization means spending less on your energy bills and keeping more money in your billfolds."
